Mike and Nichole Stohler started Gateway Private Equity Group with the belief that real estate investing should create freedom, not another job.

More than twenty years ago, we didn’t have a background in business or investing. Like many people, we followed the traditional path of working hard, saving, and hoping it all adds up one day. That changed when we learned about real estate investing and making money work for you.

We jumped in headfirst, buying our first three rental properties in 1999. Looking back, we didn’t know what we didn’t know. We didn’t understand how to analyze deals, manage tenants, or navigate the market. Within a few months, we were overwhelmed, losing money, and deep in debt.

It was a tough lesson, but it shaped everything that came next. Mike went to work for a property management company, determined to learn the business the right way. During that time, we rebuilt our approach from the ground up and focused on discipline, systems, and strategy.

With this approach, our properties outperformed expectations, giving us the resources to expand into apartment complexes and eventually hotels.

Real estate completely changed our lives. It gave us freedom, stability, and control over our financial future.

As our success grew, friends and family started asking how they could get involved. Some wanted to learn how to invest themselves. Others loved the idea of real estate but didn’t want the stress of doing it on their own.

We realized we could help both groups:

This was the beginning of Gateway Private Equity Group, where we help others create wealth and freedom through real estate.
